“Songs That Ruined Everything”

Ever had an experience of a song that ruined everything?

What do you think of that catalogue of ruinous tunes? Are there any other songs that ruined (or at least seriously threatened) your love for a musician/band?

Here is the song that Will Ferrell lovingly mocks at the end of the above video, which not only did not ruin Styx for me, it was (and remains) a quasi-sacred song, a testament to the taste for transcendence:

The origins of its quasi-sacrality for me probably have to do with the fact that it is part of the soundtrack to my life, and the lives of many others, memorialized for a generation in a scene from the short-lived but much-appreciated television show Freaks and Geeks:

When Styx released “Not Dead Yet,” that just about ruined everything for me. At the time, I thought: they are interested in writing fun confections now, not trying to refine and expand their own musical style. (Unfair and inadequate, I know.)

What songs threatened to ruin fandom for you, and why?
